Connectivity is built in, even if that connectivity does not extend to the Internet. Cell phones require a local infrastructure in order to work. It seems that the laptop project makes its own network as it goes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Bill Gates is also making the bold assumption that every one of these homes will have a TV. He needs to bear in mind that these machines are aimed at poor countries, owning a TV is common, but not a given.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; have a couple reactions. One, is anything that Microsoft is involved in ever cheaper? Linux and OpenOffice.org are free. And, two, I think Microsoft is trying to highjack a very simple, elegant idea. Who knows how expensive and complicated their idea would be in implementation. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The $100 laptop is a simple, good idea. All this wrassling around about operating systems is just about egos and market share, and not about the people that the laptops are for, and the goals of better education and better way of life that the laptops can enable.
